FAQs

"I would like to take a group class with my partner, do we have to rotate?"
Rotating partners is highly recommended but not mandatory. When you rotate, you learn faster by dancing with different partners of equal, less, or more experience or ability. Believe it or not, you'll get a more accurate picture of your progress by dancing with different people. You learn from not only what you do right, but also from what you do wrong or different. When you stay with one partner you may have a false sense of security by developing your pattern recognition. Why not test out your true "lead & follow" skills with someone you are less familiar with? By the way, its a great way to meet people and an icebreaker to dance with others socially. Also in class, its an opportunity to dance with the instructor.

"What should I wear to class?"
Wear comfortable clothing. Skirts for women are recommended but not mandatory. Comfortable short heels with leather bottoms are good if you don't have a pair of dance shoes. Men should also wear comfortable dress shoes with leather bottoms. Avoid shoes with black rubber soles as they hinder movement especially when trying to turn. As you progress you may want to invest in dance shoes with suede soles.

"What are your rates for your various services?"
George Garcia Dance prides itself in being "scalable and customizable." Whether you see dance as an art or as a sport; take it up as a hobby, as a way to excercise, as a social outlet, as a competitive endeavor, it is not "cookie-cutter." We believe our rates should not be as well. Contact us and we'll definitely design a dance program that fits your dance ambitions and budget.

"I need some music edited. Can I send you an MP3 and can you speed it up or slow it down?"
In the interest of sound quality, the track on the original CD is preferable. MP3 is great for your iPod but it is more difficult to edit and the sound quality difference will be heard especially through a loud PA system. Music can be time shifted to make the song faster or slower in tempo while keeping the pitch or key the same. If you need to do this, MP3's are definitely discouraged since you will notice a significant loss of audio quality. Also keep in mind that time shifting music will make it shorter or longer in length.
